The family ISO 900X in her version of 1994 comprennait mainly 3 standards: ISO 9001, ISO 9002 and ISO 9003.
The standard ISO 9001 established the requirements relating to an organization whose activities went from the design and the development to the production, the installation and the associated services.
The ISO 9002 was the suitable standard for an organization which did not deal of the design and the development; it contennait only the requirements relating to the control of the production, the installation and the associated services; it was best adapted to the activities of provisions of services.
ISO 9003 was the standard which corresponded to the needs for an organization which basically has recourse to controls and tests to ensure that the final products and services satisfy the specified requirements.
